Nokia debuts new S40 line: Asha 200, Asha 201, Asha 300, and Asha 303 officially launched

With the launch of the high-end Lumia 800 and the slightly more affordable Lumia 710 Windows Phone Mango smartphones at its most recent trade show in London, it's evident that Nokia has been trying to make major strides to compete with Apple's iPhone and the many Google Android-powered devices that flood the market today. But what about Nokia's bread-and-butter, the mass market category of cellphones that made the Finnish giant a household name? Doesn't Nokia have anything to offer for the people? Why, yes, of course it does. Nokia took the opportunity it had today to launch a total of four new Series 40 feature phones, each with a special feature going on in order to entice consumers to put them into their pockets.

All four of the new Series 40 feature phones announced at the Nokia World expo today belong to a new line of phones: the Nokia Asha range. These are the Nokia Asha 200, Nokia Asha 201, Nokia Asha 300, and Nokia Asha 303. These not-quite-high-end but far-from-basic handsets from Nokia are intended for the everyman. Read on for a detailed run-down of what makes each of them so special.

Nokia Asha 200 and Nokia Asha 201: Accommodating, long lasting, and loud

Let me start elaborating on the newest Nokia Asha smartphones announced at Nokia World from the bottom-up. Pictured above are the Nokia Asha 200 (left, pink) and the Nokia Asha 201 (right, green). Both models come in the same form factor as that of the Nokia C3, featuring a small color LCD screen (2.4-inches, QVGA resolution), full QWERTY keypad and the usual shortcut/messaging keys in front. These two models are actually just two different variants of the same thing. The Nokia Asha 200's main selling point is that it has the ability to accept two SIM cards as a dual-SIM phone, while the Nokia Asha 201 boasts a really loud loudspeaker for users to enjoy stereo music.

The Nokia Asha 200 and Asha 201 share a number of certain features, such as a 2-megapixel camera, support for up to 32GB memory, enhanced stereo FM radio, FM recording, one-click access to social networking, email, Nokia Messaging, Whatsapp and Facebook chat, 7 hours of talk time and up to 52 hours of music playback. Clearly, these phones are aimed at music lovers. These would go great with the new pairs of Purity HD Stereo headphones by Monster that were also announced at Nokia World.

Both the Nokia Asha 200 and Asha 201 are scheduled to come out early next year, priced at around €60 or $83 USD (about 3,500 Pesos).

Nokia Asha 300: Touch and type

The next two phones here are of the touch-and-type variety. The first one is the Nokia Asha 300, which features a 2.4-inch resistive (!) touchscreen display, an alphanumeric keypad, a 5-megapixel camera with up to 25fps video recording, built-in stereo FM radio, music player, Bluetooth, support for up to 32GB memory cards, 3G wireless connectivity, and an unidentified 1GHz processor.

Now you might be wondering, what in the world would you want to use a 1GHz processor on a feature phone for? Why, to play Angry Birds Lite, of course! This game, as well as a bunch of other S40 apps, will come pre-installed on every Nokia Asha 300 phone sold in the market when it becomes available near the end of this year. It will be priced around €85 or $118 USD (about 5,100 Pesos) and available in six different colors: graphite, night shade, gold, white silver, pink, and red.

Nokia Asha 301: Touchy feely QWERTY

The last but definitely not the least handset on Nokia's new Asha range of Series 40 phones is the Nokia Asha 303. Like the Asha 300 above, it is also of the touch-and-type variety. However, the Nokia Asha 303 is different in that it features a 2.6-inch capacitive touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keypad, something that will make typing out messages and playing Angry Birds Lite much more easier and enjoyable.

The Nokia Asha 303 also has an unidentified 1GHz processor running inside it, and boasts 3G as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity. Other features include stereo FM radio, streaming Internet radio, a 3.2-megapixel camera and up to 47 hours of music playback. The Nokia Asha 303 will be available this holiday season for around €115 or $160 USD (about 6,900 Pesos), and will come in six different colors: red, graphite, silver white, aqua, green, and purple.
